Link building is one of the best ways to get your website to the top of the search engine rankings.
But it isn’t easy.
In a nutshell it works like this, if a very popular website links to you, this will raise your popularity rating, the more websites that link to you the higher you go.
But don’t just think any link will be good enough. There is a world of difference between a link from Amazon and a link from some minor blog whose content is completely unrelated to yours.
Links That Add Value
As always content is king and linking to a keyword rich article relevant to the websites content will reap high rewards. Notice the article I have written on Banksy for a T Shirt website. The article itself uses the keyword ‘T Shirt’ sparingly. It mentions a few of the T Shirts it has on sale but more importantly provides an interesting read for the customer who may well link back to that article or forward it on to someone else.
Create Great Content
Whatever your product is write a 300 to 500 word product description using a keyword density of between 2 – 7 %. Don’t just grab the content from somewhere else, make sure it is original and fresh.
Here I have written a product description for Yo Link, a new search engine add on to help make you analyse and search online content easier.
News
News Articles are also a good way of adding valuable content to your website, informing users of upcoming releases. The articles are short and keyword rich. Have a look at this article for changes in the broadband law. It’s an informative article that people will want to know about and at the same time mentions certain popular ISP’s while linking to them.
Tutorials
People are always trying to understand how to do things so Tutorials on about anything are very popular just make sure they are instructive and well written. Check out my very simple Skype Tutorial
Blogs
If you have an ecommerce site I suggest you also have a blog to make it a bit more interactive. Say what’s happening in the company, product launches, opportunities for customers to interact, make it fun as much fun as possible.
Lets Link Up
Depending on what your niche is, if it’s gardening tools then you will need to look around at similar websites/blogs that offer similar services or would want to link to you for your interesting ‘how to’ tutorials on gardening. You will literally have to email or phone the owner of the site.Another way is to just surf relevant blogs and leave comments on their sites, and when they spot your link they will visit your site, and if they find it useful link to you.
